Send mail using SMTP client submission

Recent changes (September 1st 2018) allows for SMTP authentication client protocol for multifunctional devices and hardware appliances. There are two distinct methods for authentication and mail submission.

SMTP Client Submission

Enter the following settings directly into your device or appliance.

Device or Application Setting Value
Server/ Smart Host smtp.office365.com
Port Port 587 (recommended) or port 25
TLS/ Start TLS Enabled
Username/email address and password User credentials of the hosted mailbox

If your device or appliance does not support TLS 1.2 or above, please try the following technique.

Direct Send Method

Enter the following settings on the device or appliance directly. Option one (above) is the preferred method.

Device or Application Setting Value
Server/ Smart Host MX endpoint tenant.mail.protection.outlook.com
Port Port 25
TLS/StartTLS Enabled
Email Address Address with or without mailbox

With this method, SPF records should be entered to your DNS hosting to ensure messages are not delivered as spam. A static IP address should be used.

SPF Example:
v=spf1 ip4:<Static IP Address> include:spf.protection.outlook.com ~all
